Team | Rank (LW) | Record | Trending | Comments
Giants | 1 (1) | 10-1 | - | The offense took the week off and it was ugly. They barely cracked the mendoza line and struggled with their power. It almost led to an upset loss, but lucky for the Giants their pitching was great and bailed them out. They now are playing in one of the most interesting matchups of the year where the best pitching in the league (them) faces off against the team with the best offense (Texas).
| Rangers | 2 (2) | 9-1-1 | - | Before Friday it looked as though Texas wasn't going to be able to handle the rebuilding Cubs. However, the offense and relievers woke up and put up great numbers in leading them to an impressive 10-3-1 win over Chicago. So far all their injuries haven't hurt them yet but the story may be different this week as they attempt to take down San Francisco. |
Braves | 3 (3) | 8-2-1 | - | It was a solid week for Atlanta as they were able to beat the AL Wild Card leading Red Sox. On the pitching side, Hamels did pretty much all the damage as he was responsible for both QS. It'd be fair to say the Braves can thank the J-Hey Kid for almost single-handedly leading them to victory. He's finally living up to his potential again and is good enough to carry a team.
Indians | 4 (4) | 8-3 | - | Tough week for Cleveland as they got killed by Philly. The numbers they put up were decent, but no where near as good as we're used to seeing. Even young superstar Jason Kipnis had a bad week. They've now lost two of three, but they'll be fine and should bounce back this week against the lowly Marlins.
Cubs6 (6)7-4-In the other big game of the week the Cubs at point led 12-2, but couldn't hold on to the lead over the weekend. They're supposedly rebuilding, but have a great record and are in prime position to make the playoffs. They're definitely talented enough to keep their spot, but its not gonna be easy with Philly getting healthier.

Phillies7 (9)4-6-1Talk about a great week for the Phillies. They dominated the 8-3 Indians and they got great news that Utley should be back this week and Howard is starting a rehab assignment. This team is a lot better than their record suggests and once they get those two back, watch out as they're going to be a dangerous team.

Tigers8 (7)5-5-1Despite what their record shows, the Rockies are a good team so a loss to them isn't too bad at all. However, Detroit only has one win against a team above .500 and are going to need to step it up if they want to make the playoffs. They only have a 1.5 game lead in the wild card and now have to face two of the top teams in the league in consecutive weeks.

Reds9 (10)4-7Cincy was able to bounce back from their loss to the Marlins with a nice win over Houston. They had a great week offensively and with their pitching. Goldschmidt and Reddick continued their great seasons and led the balanced offensive attack. On the pitching side they had one of their best performances of the season as Miley, Johan, CC, and Kershaw all dominated. If they keep it up they'll have a great chance at the wild card.

Rockies10 (11)5-6The Rockies ended their losing streak in a big way with an impressive win over the AL Wild Card leading Tigers. Their offense looked great as Cody Ross and Trumbo combined for 18 RBI and 34 TB. Their relievers also looked good like always, putting up 7 saves. They've pretty much gotten good offense and relief pitching every week, but the starting pitching has been inconsistent and it will determine whether or not they can make the playoffs.

Nationals11 (8)4-7The way Washington is playing, it's gonna be close to impossible to win the Wild Card. They may be only one game out, but they're just not playing good baseball. They've now lost 6 of their last 7 matchups. They really need to play better or make some trades if they're going to win matchups going forward.

Astros12 (12)3-7-1-It was a tough week for Houston as they put up pretty good numbers but they just weren't enough. Kubel and Wright continued their great years and led the offense as it put up some of its best numbers of the year. The pitching is to blame for the loss though as they were only able to put together 3 QS and 1 win.

Rays13 (15)3-7-1The Rays got their first win in a while in a close 7-5-2 mathup against Miami. More importantly though, the front office was busy once again as they pulled off a blockbuster deal. This time, they were able to acquire former Cy Young winner King Felix and future 3B stud Brett Lawrie. With a great farm and improving mlb roster this team has a bright future.

Royals14 (16)4-7After getting shutout the previous week, the Royals bounced back in a big way. They now sit only 1.5 games out of a playoff spot. The pitching was pretty good, but the offense was the story with their great performance. Upton and Gordon have finally woken up and are living up to their expectations. Those two along with Moustakas combined for 44 TB and a .352 average. The great news is that they played this well without Tulo and Perez (he'll be back this week).

Mariners15 (13)2-8-1For the second consecutive week the Mariners lost a very close matchup to an elite team. After a 5-7-2 loss to Cleveland last week, it was an even closer 6-7-1 loss to the Giants. They had probably their best offensive performance ever as they put up over 40 RBI, a .3186 average, and over 100 TB, but their pitching let them down. They may have lost, but the front office once again pulled off a huge deal acquiring an all-star OF, solid SP, and a great reliever.

Marlins16 (14)2-9After finally getting out of the 16th spot last week, the Marlins are right back there again. They hit a pretty good amount of TB and stole a solid 7 bases, but didn't do anything else and weren't able to beat the rebuilding Rays. Their record may be ugly, but they're actually only 3 games out. It's gonna be tough with so many teams in the running, but it's possible.
